A new project that my group and i did was create a fun video to express our love for paper cranes. We called it the mayflower but what drove this was our imaginations and our love for the cranes. I really enjoyed this project and having the freedom to do it.

The most recent project we did was a watercolor bootcamp and a free choice water color project. I enjoyed doing the bootcamp to see all of the different colors you can make. for my free choice art work i drew a grapefruit. I am very happy with how it came out.
one of our new projects in art class was oil pastels. I love working with oil pastels because they are so creamy and easy to work with. our class did a sweet shop and everyone drew their favorite treats. i drew a cupcake. This was a fun project.
Embroidery was something i have never done before and it was very cool to learn. We used embroidery floss, a hoop, and a needle with thread to create out artwork. We learned about Faith Ringgold and she is an amazing quilter. She was a school teacher but quit to become an artist and make quilts. Here is an image of what i was creating in my embroidery. In the month of January we worked on printmaking. We first started out using EZ carve to get use to the carving tools and to learn how they work. Once we got the hang of the EZ carve we moved on to using linoleum blocks. These blocks were harder to carve with but if you warm them up they are easier to work with. Once we carved out our designs ( i chose to do a cardinal) we used ink and a brayer to evenly distribute the ink onto the blocks. We would put a piece of paper on top of out block once we put the ink on and push down to make sure the print would transfer. Printmaking was fun and a little difficult.

I need- more of this in my life. Alone and connected to earth. I am going- to sit here for ours and think to myself. I feel- happy and free. The fresh air lifts me. I want- to remember this day forever. Dear Jake, I am writing to you as i sit in front of this landscape. This landscape makes me feel calm and relaxed. How does it make you feel? I really enjoyed coming to the MFA i saw a lot of great works. This was one of my favorites! For this most recent week in art we developed skills on how to use India ink and ink pens. This is creating original artwork. I found this unit to be really fun. I enjoyed trying to draw new fonts. For the image i did a bubble letter M for my name and Mrs.Haggerty wanted us to include some aspects of things we enjoy. I added mountains because i love the mountains and i also added Kanye 2020 because i enjoy music and listening to Kanye. I also wanted to add some crosshatching to show how i'm using and getting use to using the ink pens. At the end of this we reflected and commented on other classmates artwork. This was a fun unit.
This year was my first year taking studio art and to say the least i had a great time! My favorite project this year would probably have to be imitating another artist's work. This project was one of our first projects and i chose Jean-Michel Basquiat. I was inspired by his work i thought it was so interesting and funky. I also thought i imitated his illustrations very well. I got a lot of compliments on my artwork which made me more confident. I got lots of compliments when we held the art show. One of the projects that i feel i learned most about was pottery. There are so many components to creating a work of art with pottery. Clay has many different stages and you have to score it to connect pieces. It was very beneficial to learn all about it because it was fun working with clay and i think everyone in class enjoyed it including me. From my first clay project to my last i definitely see improvement. In the beginning of the year we did a shading unit and a imitation drawing. It taught us how to use our pencil for shading and details. Later in the year we did a color pencil unit. In this unit i drew a twix candy bar. Using my previous skills from my earlier project i knew what i had to do to make my candy on paper look real. If i never took this class i would have no idea about how to highlight and see depth on paper. I used cool colors for my shadow and warm colors for my highlights. One of the projects we did that i think reflects me as an artist is printmaking. I really enjoyed this project because my print was the letter M for my name Meaghan and my other print was a mountain. I really love mountains and when i was a kid i would always go skiing or go to New Hampshire and i always loved mountains and the view. I really enjoyed this course. Everything we learned was fun and i have nothing to complain about. This art class or art in general has impacted my life because i would see it as an outlet. Whenever i was stressed at school i would always look forward to art class to just have a good time and use my hands and work on my projects. Even outside of school i found myself doing art. I love to watercolor so sometimes at home i pull it out and watercolor for fun.
