For our most recent unit in class we worked with pottery. We made pinch pots, bowls, leaf trays, coil pots, and our own personal project. My personal project was a leaf. Our first project was the pinch pots. We would take clay and gently use our hands to form it into a bowl. For the pinch pot project we didn't use actual bowls to form them we just did it all by hand. Another project was making a coil pot. A requirement was that the pot has to be four inches tall. This project was some what difficult because the elasticity or plasticity of clay would get rough and crack when exposed to too much air so we would have to use water to attach each segment/ new piece of clay with scoring. Scoring the clay helps connect new pieces of clay together. When we first start working with the clay the texture is soft and was easy to work with. The next project we made was the leaf trays. After leaving my tray out for a day the clay becomes leather hard. The clay is still somewhat moist but i can still work with it and carve it to what i would like it to be. One of our other assignments was to make a bowl for empty bowls. After making my bowl and leaving it out for several days it becomes bone dry. One my pottery becomes bone dry it is also greenware, which means it is ready to be fired in the kiln but if i don't like my project at this point i can always add water for it to become elastic again. After my artwork has been fired from greenware it becomes bisque pottery. It can not become clay again so at the bisque stage i will glaze it.
